OPPORTUNITY THROUGH HUNTSMAN CANCER INSTITUTE

HCI PathMaker Research Program

June 5 – August 25, 2017
Application Deadline: Postmarked by March 3, 2017

The Huntsman Cancer Institute is proud to house the PathMaker Research Program for students from underrepresented or disadvantaged populations. HCI and PathMaker supports the entry of students into the biomedical cancer research pipeline through a blend of summer and academic year research experiences that will support the student’s achievement of a career in the biomedical research and the health professions.

The Summer Program consists of a twelve-week summer experience through which students learn about research, experience research, and reflect on a research career by being partners with an HCI Investigator. The Academic Year experience is a part-time experience in a lab with an HCI Investigator and is available on a limited basis. Compensation is provided for both experiences.

The summer students admitted will receive

  • A two-week intensive laboratory techniques course that meets Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 3:00pm.
  • A ten-week individual research experience on campus, with a University faculty member serving as the research mentor (Schedule TBD with lab; 20 hours/week).

Students who complete the program are likely to improve their chances of obtaining college scholarships and subsequent undergraduate laboratory research experiences.
